Back in 2010, US Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles competed in the Red Bull Flugtag pushing a mock 'dolphin' helicopter off the platform. This time around, we are going back to our roots... constructing a mock HU-16 Albatross amphibious airplane that will soar into Red Bull folklore. Our friends back in 2010 set the standard high, but our dedicated team
of hard-chargers is extremely excited to participate in the 2013 Red Bull Flugtag and show the competition. Naturally, our actual MH-65C dolphin helicopter will be standing by to rescue their own and show those in attendance what real flying is about.
The concept behind the craft is to honor the "founding fathers" of Coast Guard aviation. The "ancient albatross" is the senior most enlisted/officer in the coast guard in terms of flying years. In addition, the HU-16 Albatross was once operational and amphibious. The design above embodies the core design with a bit of AIRSTA LA flair.
